Everything You Need to Know About Payroll Deductions
Everything You Need to Know About Payroll DeductionsEverything You Need to Know About Payroll DeductionsNeed information about the payroll deductions you see on every paycheck? Knowing what they are and why they exist is important for your understanding of your compensation. Payroll deductions are either mandatory or voluntary. Knowing the difference and why these deductions exist will explain why your salary is not the saatkorn as what you are paid. If you have additional questions after reading through this information, your Human Resources department is your best resource. They can answer your questions about your compensation, paycheck, and payroll deductions. Mandatory Payroll Deductions The employer is required by law to withhold payroll taxes from an employees gross pay prior to issuing a paycheck to comply with government regulations. Employers who fail to follow the law on mandatory deductions are open to lawsuits, fines, and even, going out of business. As an employee, you just need to understand whats going on. These are the mandatory payroll deductions for taxes Federal income taxState taxesLocal (city, county) income tax withholding in some areas. (Other local taxes can include school district taxes, community college taxes, state disability or unemployment insurance, for example.) The second set of mandatory payroll deductions are for FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) taxes that include Social security taxes andMedicare tax withholding. Depending on your state and locality, you may have very different tax rates. Federal tax rates are the same across states for all taxpayers. Voluntary Payroll Deductions While the law does not require an employer to take voluntary deductions from payroll, most employers do. In some cases, voluntary payroll deductions are convenient for the employer. In others, voluntary payroll deductions are convenient for the employee. Voluntary deductions from gross pay include items such as charitable contribut ions (for example, United Way) and the employees required contribution to the employer-provided healthcare, dental, or vision insurance coverage. They also include Certain retirement voluntary deductions can also be paid through the employee paycheck. These include several common employer-sponsored 401(k) plans, with or without an employer match, which are paid pre-tax and a Roth 401(k) that is paid after tax. Another common voluntary payroll deduction is for additional employer-sponsored life insurance. Many employers pay for a basic life insurance policy for employees. But, employees can elect more coverage for themselves, their spouse, and family if they choose. To take mandatory and voluntary payroll deductions, the employer must first determine the employees salary, called gross pay, that was earned during the time period. The employer then subtracts the mandatory and voluntary deductions from this total pay to arrive at the employees net pay. Because the US tax laws are confus ing and penalties are avoidable, employers will want to talk with their state Department of Labor and their employment law attorney when they begin hiring employees. It pays to know what is legally required. Your business accounting firm is also another expert in matters relating to payroll taxes and deductions. As an individual, hopefully, you have a better understanding about why your net pay can be so much lower than the wages that your employer is actually paying you (gross pay) - and where that money goes.

April 2019 Jobs Report
April 2019 Jobs ReportApril 2019 Jobs ReportUnemployment dipped to 3.6% in April - the lowest rate since December 1969 - and job growth surged, with employers adding 263,000 new positions. Thats according to the April jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), released today.Updated figures for February and March show that 16,000 more jobs were added than the BLS had originally reported. With these revisions, job gains have averaged 169,000 per month over the last three months. Employers have expanded payrolls by 820,000 positions since the beginning of the year. The following sectors created the fruchtwein jobs in AprilProfessional and business services 76,000 jobs addedEducation and health services 62,000 jobs addedLeisure and hospitality 34,000 jobs addedConstruction 33,000 jobs addedGovernment 27,000 jobs addedApril unemploymentThe unemployment rate for college-degreed workers who are 25 or older - the most sought-after workers - was 2.1 percent in April. Many new college graduates are now entering the workforce, which is good news for employers struggling to find promising candidates for open positions. The most recent data available from the BLS show that there are more than 7.1 million job openings in the United States. What employers need to knowHeres an important question Is your hiring criteria too inflexible? Insisting that every new hire meets every job requirement is constraining. For one, it can cause you to completely overlook new college graduates, a vast and diverse pool of high-potential candidates. While they may not check all the boxes on your list of must-have skills and experience, top candidates in this group will probably hit many - and bring even more capabilities to the table than you might expect. If youre uncertain about recruiting new college graduates, consider this Your competitors are probably open to it. A survey found that 83% of senior managers in the United States plan to hire candidates who have recently earned a college degree. The three top benefits of hiring new graduates, according to the managers surveyed, areEnthusiasm about starting a new career - Recent college grads are eager to make a difference - and their mark. And who doesnt want to hire workers who will approach their job duties and assignments with positivity and gusto?Fresh perspective and ideas - New grads can shake things up in your organization, in a good way, just by offering a different outlook on issues. Many young professionals today also have an innovative mindset and are unabashed about seeking unconventional solutions to problems. The ability to learn and be trained - One of the most overlooked - yet seemingly obvious - qualities of recent college graduates is that they are open to learning. They can also absorb new information and processes quickly and easily. So, youll likely find that a modest investment in training and a well-structured onboarding process will help put a promising new hire on the path to success. You want to recruit high-potential talent for your organization - and thats exactly why new grads should be part of your staffing strategy. Hiring recent college graduates provides your business with the opportunity to train people who are essentially clean slates. They dont have a long history of working for other employers and in different organizational cultures. And they dont need to unlearn processes and policies that may be vastly dissimilar to those at your company. Even better By investing in these newly minted professionals, your business can get a head start on building its future workforce.START HIRINGWhat job seekers need to knowThe hiring landscape looks positive for new college graduates in two key ways First, the talent crunch is prompting many businesses to be more receptive to hiring recent grads. In fact, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers plan to hire 10.7% more graduates from the class of 2019 than they did from the class of 2018.Second, many companies are willing to train up promising candidates. In a survey, 84% of human resources managers reported that their organization is open to hiring an employee whose skills can be developed through training. And 62% of U.S. workers surveyed said they had been offered a job when they didnt meet all the requirements. That doesnt mean employers arent taking time to identify candidates who will be a good match for the job and the organization, however. So, if your skills and experience arent exactly in line with what the company is looking for, youll need to draw attention to other things that speak to your current abilities and your potential. For exampleDo you have outstanding interpersonal skills? Most employers today actively seek these attributes in job candidates at any career stage. Strong verbal and written communication skills, for example, are highly valued. Are you passionate about learning? If so, emphasize it - especially if it looks like youd need to complete some extended on-the-job training to help you get up to speed in your new role. What activities did you participate in both on and off campus, including volunteer work, internships and part-time jobs? These types of activities can help to show a hiring manager that your time at college wasnt all about cracking the books - or playing Frisbee on the quad. So, if youre worried about how the job search process will unfold after you graduate, be optimistic. Given the current dynamics, it could be a much smoother experience than you anticipate. Just be prepared to help hiring managers clearly see why an investment in you - even if you need some training - is an investment that ultimately will deliver strong returns to the business.

Good and Bad Days to Attack Online Job Positions
Good and Bad Days to Attack Online Job PositionsGood and Bad Days to Attack Online Job PositionsThere are good days to attack online job positions. And there are bad days. It is one of the biggest reasons why it is wise to never quit your job before you have a new one. The bad days of waiting to hear back or see job postings listed can feel like an eternity. So, make the most of your week while job searching. Make sure you are focused and applying for jobs, or have people doing it for you, on unterstellung good days below to successfully apply for a job. Attack the online job positions on the days listed below and take a break on the other days. What should you do when you cannot attack online job positions? Make sure you energize yourself, prepare for interviews, or work on other aspects of your career (resumes and cover letters).Good days to apply1. Monday (Best day)This may come as a surprise to most. Monday is actually the best day of the week to attack online job positions or hav e a company like Find My Profession do it for you. Statistically, applicants who apply on a Monday have a 1 in 3 chance of moving forward in the interview process. What makes Monday so special? As the week progresses, and a job posting continues to receive applications, those applying on Monday stand the greater chance of being viewed. Those who apply later in the week end up on the bottom of the pile.Apparently, first-come-first-serve still has meaning when applying for jobs online. Your application is viewed in the buchung in which it was received. Of course, timing is not everything. It helps when applications are targeted to your specific skills when you successfully apply for a job.2. Tuesday WednesdayThese two days are added together because, statistically, these are the two days when companies post the most job listings. Monday sees a fair amount of companies posting jobs, too. But the majority of hiring decisions take place on Tuesday. On these specific days, it helps to be q uick on the trigger for submitting applications. The majority of job postings happen at 11 am. And the rush of applications begins normally around 2 pm. It may be useful for those looking to beat the crowd to keep their eyes open before 2 pm. This way, the submission of an application will not be received along with dozens of others. With the majority of job postings and hirings taking place between Monday to Wednesday, ideally, these are the best days for job seekers to keep their eyes open.3. Friday morningHiring managers stay hard at work while others abflug to wind down for the week. This is a great time to apply for online job positions and get your resume in front of a hiring manager looking to meet deadlines.Given they will most likely be scheduling interviews by the afternoon, it is best to get your application in early. As the saying goes, The early bird catches the worm.4. The same day it was postedThe convenience of applying for jobs online means you will have competition. A job posting that sits on a website longer than a day has usually fulfilled its purpose. If one job listing receives 50 applications, in one day, there will be enough applicants to contact from that bunch. When searching for jobs online, try searching for jobs posted the same day you wish to apply for a job.Bad days to apply1. Saturday SundayIt is tough to take a weekend when you have not worked all week. The reality is, the hiring managers are taking weekends off. So, you should do the same.Simply put You are submitting an application into a pile from the week. And no one will see it. No one is working.2. ThursdayThursday is a popular day for conducting interviews. Hiring managers cannot look at applications and schedule interviews if they are busy talking to job candidates. At the end of the day, in spite of technology, the hiring process is still very human. People end up talking to people. Candidates have to communicate whether they can do a job or not. Employers have to commu nicate what they want from candidates in a job description. Those who are aware of the best ways to communicate with the other party stands a greater chance of success.

Nelson Mandela 4 Lessons His Legacy Can Teach Us All
Nelson Mandela 4 Lessons His Legacy Can Teach Us All On Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, the world lost a leader, activist, fighter for freedom, and a universal symbol of peace and equalityNelson Mandela. At age 95, Mandela lived leid only a long life, but one of inspiration for us all. To honor his legacy, I thought wed take a look at the former presidents life, because although his path was one most of us will never have to endure, every partno matter his/her profession or aspirationscan learn a lesson from the leaders journey.Nelson Mandela began his studies for a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University College of Fort Hare but did not complete the degree there as he was expelled for joining in a student protest. He completed his BA through the University of South Africa and went back to Fort Hare for his graduation in 1943.Lesson 1 Take actionMost would not count it wise advice to get expelled for jo ining a student protest, but theres a lesson in Mandelas misfortune take action. He was obviously passionate about a cause (or causes) while in school, and instead of just talking and voicing his opinions about the issue, Mandela joined others to take action and bring awareness to it.Maybe you want to make a difference in your career or see so many issues in society that you hope to change. These are both great, but actions speak louder than words. Mandela showed us that 1) its important to actually put action behind your feelings and desires and 2) you dont have to wait to do so. Mandela was a college student when he first joined the protest. It doesnt matter how young or inexperienced you are if you decide to take action and follow your passions, you can make a difference and become successful.Meanwhile he began studying for an LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand. By his own admission he was a poor student and left the university in 1948 without graduating. He only started studying again through the University of London and also did not complete that degree. In 1989, while in the last months of his imprisonment, he obtained an LLB through the University of South Africa. He graduated in absentia at a ceremony in Cape Town.Lesson 2 Follow your own routeMandela dropped out of school, began studying again, yet didnt finish his degree. It wasnt until he was in prison over the course of 27 years that he obtained a law degree. His life shows that not everyone has to (or is meant to) take the conventional route. Although most are taught to go to post-secondary school and receive an education right after high school, many people like Mandela and others didnt do this and were still successful.Find the route in life that works best for you. There are plenty of successful (and millionaire) entrepreneurs without a college degree or who completed a degree later down the road.In October 1963 Nelson Mandela joined nine others on trial for sabotage in what became known as the Rivonia Trial. Facing the death penalty his words to the court at the end of his famous Speech from the Dock on 20 April 1964 became immortalizedI have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.Lesson 3 Prepare for adversityThe path to pursuing your goals will inevitably be honigwein with adversity. Mandela spent 27 years in prison for fighting against apartheid he was even willing to sacrifice his life for the cause. In todays society, most of us are not called to sacrifice our lives for a cause, but do we desire to reach our goals enough to meet and overcome every obstacle we will face along the way?In 1993 he and President FW de Klerk jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize and on 27 April 199 4 he voted for the first time in his life.On 10 May 1994 he was inaugurated South Africas first democratically elected President.Lesson 4 Embrace your destinySo many of us have hopes and dreams, but are we actually prepared to step into those rolls? Are we prepared to start that business, be that CEO or conduct that heart transplant? After many years of fighting against (and helping defeat) apartheid, Mandela was elected as South Africas first black president. What an immense role, especially at the age of 76, but his life teaches us to fully embrace our destinies. Be confident in your calling and purpose, and be prepared for when the time arrives to step into the role of your dreamsnot matter what age you are. There are SO many more lessons we could learn from Mandelas life, but I think a final one is best summed up in the influential leaders own wordsWhat counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will dete rmine the significance of the life we lead. Nelson Mandela
